Volunteer Opportunities
Like most not-for-profit organizations, Habitat relies on a dedicated group of volunteers to carry out its programs.
We warmly accept volunteers on an ongoing basis. All types of skills and talents are needed - from helping with mail-outs to designing and building houses.
Although most house-building activity occurs during the summer, volunteers contribute thousands of hours year-round in administration and in the committee work needed to reach the construction phase of Habitat's activities. Skills of volunteers onsite range from individuals who run errands, provide snacks or keep the build site tidy, to highly skilled tradespeople. Individuals, commercial establishments, the faith community and service organizations are all invited to help.
The work of Habitat for Humanity is not limited to home building alone. There are volunteer opportunities in a number of important areas including:
Public Relations Committee - Media relations, writing, special events, The Concrete Facts newsletter, website maintenance, fund raising, ReStore (donation pickup, appliances, building materials).
Site Selection & Building Committee - Locating appropriate land for Habitat homes, obtaining permits, house design, materials acquisition, build planning, co-ordination of build volunteers.
Family Selection & Nurturing Committee - Reviewing applications, interviewing, locating partner families for Habitat homes, working with Habitat families as they make the transition to home ownership.
Development Committee - Identifying, recruiting, training and supporting volunteers, corporate sponsorship, submission of proposals.
